Creating Your Bedroom Sanctuary: A Complete Guide
7 min read
Your bedroom should be the most intentional room in your home. It's where you begin and end each day, so every choice — from your bedding to your lighting — shapes how rested you feel.
Start with your mattress. Nothing undermines a beautiful bedroom like poor sleep. Invest here first. Then build outward: a quality base, good pillows, and bedding with a thread count of at least 300 in natural fibres.
For the bedroom environment, consider light carefully. Blackout curtains or blinds are non-negotiable for most people. Layer bedside lamps on dimmers — harsh overhead lighting at night disrupts your circadian rhythm.
Keep surfaces as clear as possible. A bedside table should hold only what you need: a lamp, a book, perhaps a glass of water. Clutter on surfaces creates mental clutter, which the last thing you want before sleep.
Scent is often overlooked but powerfully effective. A linen spray with lavender or cedarwood, a candle used only in the bedroom, or even a small diffuser can signal to your brain that it's time to wind down.
